How to tell if a debt reliefcompany is legitimate.

Seven checks that work on any merchant cash advance debt relief firm, including this one, and the warning signs that should end a call.

Written and reviewed by the Anchor Resolve editorial team.

Key points

  • Check a firm’s legal name and address in the state business registry before you share documents.
  • A legitimate firm puts every fee in writing before you sign anything.
  • No honest firm promises a percentage reduction or a timeline before reading your contracts.
  • Ask who holds your program money; the answer should never be the firm’s own account.

Seven checks you can run on any firm

  • Identity. Its legal name, office address, and phone number are published and match the state business registry. In Florida, that is the Division of Corporations’ Sunbiz search.
  • Fees in writing first. Every fee is in a written agreement you can read before you sign, and nobody asks for a large payment before showing you work.
  • No promised result. No percentage reduction, savings figure, or timeline is promised before anyone has read your contracts.
  • Law-firm status. It says plainly whether it is a law firm. If it is not, it does not give legal advice or appear in court for you.
  • Your money. Program money sits in an account you can see, and the firm says who holds it. Anchor Resolve never holds client funds.
  • Who negotiates. It tells you who actually works with your funders, and nothing is agreed on your behalf without your signature.
  • Its record. Complaints, Better Business Bureau records, state attorney general actions, and court records are searchable by name. Search them yourself rather than relying on the firm’s own reviews.

The nine-test guide goes deeper on each check, and the fifteen questions are the ones to ask on a first call.

Warning signs that end the conversation

A cold call you never asked for. Pressure to sign today. A guaranteed percentage. Fees described as built into the plan rather than written down. Advice to stop paying your funders with no explanation of default, frozen accounts, and lawsuits. A request for your online banking login. Any one of these is enough to walk away, and the red flags page lists ten, each with what a legitimate firm does instead.

Run the same checks on Anchor Resolve

Anchor Resolve LLC is in Miami, Florida, and its address is in the footer of every page and on the contact page. The program fee is set out in your program agreement. Anchor Resolve is compensated by the servicing partner from that fee. You do not pay Anchor Resolve separately.

Anchor Resolve does not negotiate with funders, does not hold client funds, and is not a law firm. In its program, a servicing partner’s negotiation team works with each funder on the client’s behalf, and nothing is agreed without the client’s signature. The facts page lists everything you can verify, and the ten-point rubric applies to us as much as to anyone.

Common questions

How do I check if a debt relief company is registered?

Search its legal name in the state business registry where it says it is based, such as Florida’s Sunbiz search for a Florida company, and confirm the address and status match what the firm publishes.

Is it a bad sign if a debt relief company promises a percentage reduction?

Yes. No firm can know what a funder will agree to before reading your contracts and asking. A promised percentage or timeline is a sales pitch, not a review.

Does Anchor Resolve hold client money?

No. Anchor Resolve does not hold client funds. The program fee is set out in your program agreement. Anchor Resolve is compensated by the servicing partner from that fee. You do not pay Anchor Resolve separately.
